Artist's Description
Page 10 from the "Masks by Edgeworth Johnstone" book published by Black Ivory Printmaking & Audio Club in Muswell Hill. A fan club exclusive publication. Double primed cardboard face masks painted in oil by Edgeworth Johnstone. Much like African tribal masks or those from the Dada theater plays in the mid-twentieth century. Items from contemporary dance clothes. Tied with jute string round the back of the head. Worn to fancy dress parties and other costume events. Dressing up in party clothes and novelty wierd outfit occasions. Could be part of the dressup outfits worn at ballet dress shows performing in contemporary dance theatres. The type actors wear in stage show acts in character acting.
